Out of the Ordinary Produce Finds

This week in our WW meeting we discussed adding color to your meals by using a variety of fruits and vegetables.  This provided me with a reason to do a little research on unusual produce. I'm a little adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, so it was interesting to learn about fruits and vegetables that don't usually make it to our tables.
The ABC News story, "13 Weird Fruits and Vegetables:  Exotic Produce," discusses each produce item and also has a short video.  One of my favorites, star fruit, made the article! I also found a link on how to prepare star fruit, and it includes videos.
I read about kumquats in the article, and now I think I'm going to try them! Check out this link: "Kumquats Recipes."
On the blog "Foodconnect" there is an article called "Unusual Produce."  You will find boxes to click on for information about seven kinds of unusual produce.  Of the seven, one I found strange...bananas.  I thought it was odd that bananas were included in a post about unusual produce.  Bananas are high in potassium, magnesium, and vitamins B and C...pretty normal stuff.  I think the "unusual" part might be that rubbing banana skin on a mosquito bite can reduce swelling and itching. (Bunny Trail:  I usually keep an orange in the fridge to slice and put on a bee sting to keep it from swelling and hurting.)
So what's the most unusual produce you've ever eaten?  Please share!
